Safety Window Film for Glass

Safety Window Film for Glass

Glass Safety Window Film is used to upgrade glass doors, windows and other glass surfaces that are not already made from safety glass. It is a transparent Window Film that prevents the glass from shattering when it breaks, hugely reducing the risk and danger of injury to improve a home or commercial property’s overall safety.

Why Do You Need Glass Safety Film?

Current building regulations and Health & Safety Legislation call for glass within specific areas (Critical Locations) to meet a minimum impact safety performance standard – BS EN 12600.

Our 100 Micron Glass Safety Window Film range is all standards approved (BS6202 BS6262 EN12600), ensuring glass within the workplace and schools meets Regulation 14. Glass Safety Films are recommended by local government authorities to protect business workplaces, schools, and domestic properties.

Whilst Glass Safety Window Film can improve the inherent strength of the glass to which it is applied, reducing the risk of initial breakage is the real benefit. This comes from Safety Window Film being able to hold together broken glass fragments, reducing the likeliness of injury occurring significantly. The risk of initial and subsequent injury is dramatically reduced, enabling a safe and quick clean up process afterwards.

Whether the glass in a door or window is broken through impact, building movement, vandalism or weather conditions, Safety Window Films provide a barrier to glass fragments from breaking free. Overall, Safety Window Film enhances employee, worker and child safety in a building.

Recognised as a highly effective method of improving the safety of glass, Safety Window Film is recommended and endorsed by local authorities for use by childminders to protect children under their care against glass-related injury.

Marking Glass Safety Window Film

Sureguard Window Films® professional installation includes marking each protected pane of glass with an approved identifier clearly stating that the combination of glass and Window Film satisfies the requirements of BS6206 – BS EN 12600.

This marking includes full details of the material, the safety standard and also the Sureguard company name. Window Film applied to glass without the marking will improve the safety performance of glass but will not satisfy the definition of a safety material included in current Building Regulations / Health & Safety Legislation. Hence, marking is a crucial step in the installation process.

Due to Glass Safety Film playing an essential role in keeping those inside a building safe, professional installation from a registered company is vital rather than attempting to install the Window Film yourself.  Installing your own Glass Safety Window Film means that you will not have sufficient “compliance” markings.  If you attempt to add markings when fitting yourself, this would be deemed a false statement intimating that the Safety Window Film has been professionally installed. Sureguard Window Films® will not supply compliance marking under any circumstances to any third party to ensure safety is always maintained.
