British Safety Standards 6206
- Toughend Glass
In order to be classified
as an impact safe material glass is subjected to
the British Safety Standard Test BS6206.This test
defines the level at which glass will "break
safe".
Glass can achieve three grading
stages within the standard - A, B or C, where A
is the highest performance level.
The test incorporates the dropping
of a weight from three heights onto a standard sized
pane of glass.
The point at which the glass breaks
forms part of it's classification. In addition the
size of any hole left after impact is included in
the certification process.
These drop heights are as follows :
305mmPass = Class C
457mmPass = Class B
1219mmPass = Class A
IMPORTANTLY materials
that are classified as safety material meeting the
performance criteria of BS6206 MUST carry an identifiable
mark showing the level of safety achieved.
